Inter-Schools Tournament - brilliant success: March 2006

Organised by England Squash North West Area Manager John Gibson, this competition was held as the trial for a format to be rolled out nationally.  Groups of 11 and 12 year old children from local schools who had not played squash before were brought to the club and taught the basics of squash.  Each school then selected three boys and three girls to compete in a team competition at the Hoppers.

Considering these children had only three hours practice the standard of squash was excellent and the end result was a closely competed final between Broughton Technology and Business School who were pipped at the post by Corpus Christie Sports College.  Other schools competing were City of Preston High School, Fulwood High School, Christ The King High School and Tulketh Community Sports College.

North West Counties Division 1 Champions - Second consecutive season

Hopper 1st team maintained their dominance of the North West Counties Squash League taking the Division 1 title by a wide margin.  The squad included Marcus Berrett, Paul Lord, John Lambert, Greg Laidler, Danny Massaro, Jonathan Gallacher, Andy Heller and Richard Mackie, all of whom made important contributions throughout the season.

Junior Graded Tournaments at Hoppers a big success

Organised by Club Coach, Brian Cowan these tournaments have attracted players from around the country and a high standard of play.  The tournaments are based on the England Squash Grading System with groups ranging from players new to competitive squash through to seasoned players in the County feeder system.  We will be organising more Graded events next season from September onwards.
