Preston Grasshoppers Rugby Football Club is one of the oldest rugby clubs in existence tracing its roots back to 1869.

The Club is a friendly, inclusive and welcoming environment that has a thriving rugby community for men’s, women’s and children’s rugby with over 1000 active members.

The Club is a forward-looking organisation aiming to widen its appeal for community and social activity within Preston, making the most of its superb location in the expanding residential community to the north of the city. In addition to rugby, the Club is home to other sports, such as squash cycling and cricket. We have extensive facilities providing a venue for conferencing and events and the Club is open to the public to enjoy food and drink in a family friendly environment.

We have an opportunity for a proven business leader to guide the Club forward and enhance its reputation as a community rugby club with a sustainable future. We are looking to recruit a General Manager for the Club to lead in the following areas:-

  • Managing the facilities to ensure the Club is a welcoming and safe environment.
  • Creating and implementing a commercial strategy to maximise revenue to support the Club’s sports and community activities.
  • Leadership of the Club’s employees creating a supportive and dynamic working environment.
  • Liaison with the Club’s management committee and membership to enhance a “One Hoppers” culture.
  • Robust governance and financial management.

The person we hope to appoint as out General Manager will have the following key skills and experience:-

  • Experience of a sports club environment and its priorities is desirable; in particular, balancing commercial objectives of the business with the expectations and views of members
  • Knowledge and experience in business, supervision and management
  • Awareness of the operational, financial and commercial responsibilities of the business
  • Awareness of the importance of a customer centric culture within the business
  • Experience of the hospitality industry an advantage
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent organisational skills
