A wet and blustery Southport awaited the U9s fixture on Sunday with the young minis taking yet more strides in welcoming the addition of the contact tacking rule.
It was touch and go whether the matches would be played, but with the movement of some other pitches, the games were played in the spirit of rubgy and TREDS.
The training sessions at home are proving their worth with the young players building their confidence and technique with aplomb.
On the attacking front there were tries galore with great link up and support play.
But not all games are won with great attacking play.
Both hoppers’ defensive lines were a force to be reckoned with the teams pushing Southport back and turning the ball over several times and the shouts of joy form the players made it even more memorable – witnessing what it means to the players when battling hard in difficult conditions – with rapturous applause from the supporting parents.
Split fixtures away to Burnley and Liverpool St Helens await the players in a couple of weeks as we close out the first half of the season.
A big thanks to the parents and coaches who braved the trip to cheer and support the young players.
